High End Restaurants in Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland, Ohio was founded in 1796.  Located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, it was a major hub for manufacturing.  With the city on both the lake shore and the Cuyahoga River it also had connections to several canals and railroads.

It is estimated that the city itself has a population of around four hundred thousand.  However, if you incorporate the Akron and Canton into the area, it puts the population over three and a half million.  It is also estimated that the area has over two thousand restaurants.

I have picked three of the higher end restaurants to get some history and write about.  Their websites are very different so the theme of each will be a little different.

The Marble Room Steaks and Raw Bar has a rich history.  The building it sits in was originally built in 1898 by James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States, to honor their father.  President Garfield only served as President for six months as he was shot on July 2, 1881 by a disgruntled office seeker.  He lingered for two months before passing away two months later.

The Garfield building is a one hundred and fifty-foot, thirteen story high-rise on the corner of Euclid Ave. and E. 6th Street.  It became the home of National City Bank in 1921 which went bankrupt in 2008.

The building was purchased in 2015 and a major renovation was done on the building.  The old offices were remodeled into one hundred and twenty-three apartments above retail space.  The Marble Room Steaks and Raw Bar took over the bank itself after some major renovations.  The executive offices have now been converted to dining boardrooms and cocktail lounges.  In the lower level vaults, they were re-decorated and updated for a private party space.

They have restored the gilded tiles and antique fixtures and blend with the décor.  This is an amazing place to have an incredible meal.  Just make sure you post your comments on the web to bolster their four-and-a-half-star rating.

EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant Institute is located in Shaker Square.  They are actually a 501(c)(3) organization that specializes in reforming formerly incarcerated adults to work in the hospitality industry and culinary industry.

Originally founded in 2007, EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant started teaching in Grafton Correction Institute.  They opened their restaurant in November of 2013.  They now graduate almost one hundred students per year.  They take an active roll in their lives by securing them employment and connecting them to other community necessities.

Amazingly they can boast a ninety-five percent employment after the students have graduated with only a one-point-four percent recidivism rate.  They had a documentary done on them in 2017 called Knife Skills that was nominated for an Oscar in 2018.

They have a four-point-eight-star rating on the internet with over one hundred and fifty reviews.

Morton’s The Steakhouse located in the Tower City Center which is connected to the Ritz-Carlton in Cleveland, Ohio is one of their sixty-six locations in the United States.  They have restaurants internationally as well.

Morton’s The Steakhouse got its start with a hamburger.  Co-founders Klaus Fritsch and Arnie Morton worked for the Playboy Club in Montreal years ago.  Because they were changing the menu, Klaus cooked a hamburger for Arnie to sample.  Arnie loved the hamburger and dubbed it the “Million-Dollar Hamburger”.

Fast forward to three decades later and you have one of the most successful steakhouses worldwide.  Each restaurant aspires to serve only the finest quality foods.  Their Cleveland, Ohio restaurant has over a four-star rating on the world wide web.
